Questions
Questions from grown-ups
- Do I need to read music?
- No. Nothing in Earshed Kids asks you to read music, and each song has a short note for you in plain words.
- Do we need a real piano?
- You need something with keys: an acoustic piano, a digital piano, or a keyboard. The app listens through the iPad's microphone. If your keyboard has a USB or Bluetooth MIDI connection, the app can listen through that instead, which is even more exact.
- Which devices?
- iPad, with iPadOS 26 or newer — that's any iPad from the last several years, including the 9th-generation iPad many schools and families still use. It isn't on Android or iPhone.
- What age?
- Six to twelve. If your child can sing along to a nursery rhyme and is starting to read, they're ready. A five-year-old about to turn six can start too; the listening is gentlest for the youngest.
- How long is a session?
- A few minutes. There are no timers and no streaks; a session ends when your child is done.
- Does it teach reading music?
- Yes, after the ear. Coloured syllables first, then the staff, always for songs your child can already play.
- Can brothers and sisters share it?
- Yes, on one iPad, each with their own progress. The Songbook covers up to four children.
- Is my child's voice recorded?
- No recording of your child is sent to us. The listening happens on the iPad. Privacy
- When is it out?
- It's being built and tested now. Leave your email and we'll write once, when it's on the App Store.
