The grown-ups' area
Everything for grown-ups (buying, settings, each child's progress) is behind the small door in the corner of the children's screen, then a number written out in words for you to type in. Children never see a price or a setting.
Listening to your piano
- The iPad listens through its microphone, on the music rest. The app asks for the microphone only on grown-ups' screens: when you set it up, or in the grown-ups' area under Settings, then Listening, where you can turn listening on later.
- If notes are missed, run Check listening there with your child, and keep the top edge of the iPad clear. A note the app couldn't quite hear never counts against your child.
- Nothing your child plays or sings leaves the iPad.
A keyboard instead
Any MIDI keyboard works, with a cable or over Bluetooth. In the grown-ups' area, choose Settings, then Set up a keyboard: it connects or pairs it, chooses its sound, and times it for playing with the beat. No keyboard and no piano? The keys on the screen work too.
Buying songs
- The Songbook is paid once and is your family's for good. A family membership, monthly or yearly, opens every song while you're a member, and starts with a free week.
- Buying is in the grown-ups' area, under Songs. What you buy is on the Apple Account signed in to the iPad, for every child on it.
- On a new iPad, or after deleting the app: Settings, then Purchases, then Restore purchases.
- "Purchases are turned off on this iPad": Screen Time is blocking them. In the iPad's Settings, choose Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, and allow In-app Purchases.
- Ask to Buy: the songs open as soon as the purchase is approved.
- Cancelling a membership: Settings, then Purchases, then Manage the membership, in the app; or in the iPad's Settings, under your Apple Account's subscriptions. Refunds are Apple's: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Several children
One child can play before anything is bought, and up to four once something is. Each has their own songs, progress and look, never compared. Whoever is playing taps their picture to hand over; a grown-up can move a session to the right child afterwards, from the child's page in the grown-ups' area.
Your child's data
See Privacy for what we keep (as little as we can) and Delete your data for deleting a child or everything.
Something isn't working
Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened, with your iPad model and iPadOS version. Please don't send recordings or photos of your child.
